opsi at T-DOSE 2023: A personal Report

On the 22nd and 23rd of April, T-DOSE 2023 took place at its new location, the Weeffabriek in Geldrop, near Eindhoven. T-DOSE (Technical Dutch Open Source Event) is an annual open source technology conference bringing together experts and enthusiasts from the Open Source community. Together with my colleague Terry Strooband, I was happy to present opsi.

Connecting with the Community

The two-day conference was great, and I had a lot of fun talking to the other projects. Apart from our opsi stand, there were other well-known Open Source projects like Apache OpenOffice, Bareos, Debian, Free Your Model Train (FYMT), Hackalot, Standard for Public Code, and the Home Computer Museum. For us, it was a great opportunity to re-connect with old friends and make new ones. Meeting like-minded people from the community is always great.

I was especially happy to meet Joke Holmer from the Gemeente's-Hertogenbosch. She works as Senior Medewerker Infrastructuur (Senior Employee Infrastructure) at ICT-infrastructuur and uses opsi as configuration management system for more than 60 Linux servers. It was incredibly kind that Joke as a native speaker helped us to connect with the Dutch community and visitors. Thanks, Joke, for translating and being there!

Highlights from T-DOSE 2023

T-DOSE 2023 featured a diverse range of presentations which offered valuable insights into the latest developments in Open Source technology, ranging from practical implementation advice, useful insights for developers, and also the recent trend of Open Source adoption in the Dutch government and public sector. Attendees were also treated to some workshops, for example, about hardening container images, getting started with the editor ed, or fun with Bash and Azure.

As a participant of T-DOSE 2023, I was happy to give a talk about opsi. In my presentation, I shared experiences about our Open Source Client Management software and talked about about how opsi can simplify software distribution, inventory management, and other IT tasks in small and large organizations. The audience was great: at the end of my presentation, we had some discussions about the benefits and challenges of using Open Source software in enterprise environments.

Thanks, see you next Year!

I would like to say thanks to everyone who worked hard to make T-DOSE 2023 a success: the organizers, speakers, stand owners, and visitors. It was great to see familiar faces and meet new community members.

Looking ahead, I'm excited to hear that there will be a T-DOSE 2024, and I'm looking forward to attending again. The organizers are already planning for next year's event. The dates for 2024 are June, 1 and 2, 2024, according to their website. Hope to see you there!
